National Conference on Languages and Literatures of India

organized by Somaiya Vidyavihar

India is a unique country with a plethora of languages and multi-lingual literatures. Besides classical texts, folk and tribal traditions too have enriched culture and literature in India. Hence, the study of Indian languages and the literatures written in these languages gains prominence. With the explosion of  technology and mass media, the scope of research in Indian languages and literatures has considerably widened.  The conference addresses the various dimensions of Languages and Literatures in India, in teaching, research, translation and creative writing.  It aims to construct a bridge between the classical and the contemporary worlds of Indian literatures and languages. The rich diversity of genre, style and themes in Indian languages, and the role of the languages themselves in creating distinct identities for these literatures, is the main focus of the conference. Distinguished scholars across the country have agreed to deliver keynote address and plenary lectures in the conference. The lectures cover the various aspects of the literatures of India and dwell on the role of translation in connecting their multilingual landscapes. While insights from these distinguished speakers in the field are sure to enrich the intellectual exchange, in the conference, there will also be a session for young scholars to present their studies in this arguably vast and varied terrain. The conference will open fertile new grounds for research and initiate fruitful discussions and dialogues that enhance scholarship on the languages and literatures of India.
