The inauguration of the Somaiya Judo Excellence Centre at Somaiya Vidyavihar University marks a meaningful step in building a structured, long-term ecosystem for judo development in India.

Designed to bridge grassroots training with elite performance, the centre integrates high-quality coaching with an academic framework that supports athletes both in sport and education.

An MoU signed between the Maharashtra Judo Association and Somaiya Sports Academy reinforces a shared commitment to strengthening the sport and creating pathways for aspiring judoka to compete at national and international levels.

The occasion was marked by the presence of key leaders from the judo and academic ecosystem, including Shri Samir Somaiya (Chancellor, Somaiya Vidyavihar University), Shri Shailesh Tilak (President, Maharashtra Judo Association), Shri Datta Aphale (Secretary, Maharashtra Judo Association), Dr Satish Pahade (Former Coach, Indian Judo Team), Shri Ravidra Patil (President, Mumbai Judo Association), Adv Suresh Kanojia (Vice President, Mumbai Judo Association), Prof Ajay Kapoor (Vice Chancellor, Somaiya Vidyavihar University), Dr Nandkumar Gilke (Registrar), Dr Urmi Thakkar (Dean, Student Welfare), and Mr Aazaz Khan (Director, Somaiya Sports Academy).

This initiative reflects a focused effort to build a sustainable, high-performance sporting ecosystem while developing future champions.
